From Big Data to Better Health

The rapidly expanding universe of biomedical data is creating unprecedented new opportunities to understand human disease and improve human health. Technologies such as genomics, electronic health records, and wearable health monitoring devices provide rich new dimensions of data for measuring human health, but a key challenge lies in integrating and modeling the digital universe of biomedical data to translate these data into actionable new knowledge. This talk will highlight initiatives at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai to leverage Big Data approaches to improve our understanding of disease and healthcare delivery in one of the largest academic hospitals in the nation. The goal of these efforts is to build a learning healthcare system that provides data-driven approaches to guide precision clinical care that optimizes health outcomes based on the unique characteristics of patients and populations.
